What are uPVC Double Glazed Windows?
uPVC double glazed windows (also called double glazing or insulated glass units) are modern windows designed to make your home more comfortable, quieter, and cheaper to run — especially in Perth's hot summers and cooler winters.
How They Work
Double glazing basics: Instead of one single pane of glass (like older windows), these have two panes of glass separated by a sealed gap (usually 6–20mm wide).
The gap is filled with air or an inert gas like argon, which acts as an excellent insulator. This trapped layer stops heat from easily passing through — it blocks heat escaping in winter and stops hot outdoor air coming in during summer.
The glass is held in a strong uPVC frame (uPVC stands for unplasticised polyvinyl chloride — a tough, rigid plastic that's not the flexible type you see in pipes or cables).
uPVC frames have multi-chambered designs (lots of air pockets inside the profile) that add extra insulation and don't conduct heat like metal frames do.
